| Is
your practice a covered entity under the HIPAA regulations? When you bill payers electronically, you are considered a covered entity under HIPAA and are subject to all the HIPAA regulations, no matter how small your practice, even if you are a sole practitioner. Medicare is required, under the HIPAA regulations, to accept paper trans-actions from you after October 16, 2003 if your practice employs ten or fewer FTE’s and if you do no electronic billing. |
